Plucked from the relative obscurity of  practising his drums with a group of friends in a Wythenshawe wash-house, Henry was invited to join a  proper  band—THE BIG CITY BLUES--- in 1964.

Proper  meant that they were a band with a manager, a PA, a van  and---GIGS !!! This group of excellent musicians ( if you want you could eventually include Henry in this category, but for now the only reason he had been asked to join was that the previous drummer had broken his wrist ) were to stay together for many years.

With a couple of personnel changes they eventually became the very successful ( and very popular at the Twisted Wheel, Manchester ) GINHOUSE, with a serious following.

Another name change occurred with the incorporation of a black singer, Milton James, at the height of the Soul era, when they became MILTON JAMES AND THE MILTON JAMES BAND, touring the Locarno and Mecca Ballrooms and Universities in a whirlwind of gigs for a long spell.

After being with another couple of bands---including STUDIO ONE with Kirk St. James with  a residency at Bredbury Hall, Stockport ---Henry decided it was time to get some professional qualifications and spent three years in Kent , doing Teacher Training.

Returning to Stockport in 1971 he joined a cabaret band called Nice n’ Easy and then a chance meeting with guitarist John Brett at the Baker’s Vaults led to the occupancy of the drummer’s stool in the Baker’s resident band, the MEGABAND.

Thus began a long association with the various musicians of Stockport , with whom Henry has drummed over the last couple of decades….notably…in
