Whilst playing piano for Sunday diners at the Three Tuns Hotel in the mid 1980’s, a chance meeting with Paul & Lynne Bamford was to lead to an association with the Stockport music scene from then until the present day. The first eight years were spent with the Bamford Blues Band, a well respected local R & B outfit, who in addition to considerable success in their own right including a guest appearance on Paul Jones’ Radio 2 Show, backed American legend Lowell Fulson on his appearance at Manchester’s Band On The Wall, and Champion Jack Dupree on what was to be one of his last appearances, at the Burnley Blues Festival.

The Sunday lunchtime solo residency moved to popular music venue The Bakers Vaults when the Tuns was condemned as structurally unsound and became a car park.

Becoming a part of the local scene brought Paul into contact with current band members Henry and John. They have had great times together in various lineups such as The Mega Band, The Best Band (John’s names were never light on superlatives), The Jam Butties aka The Sharples Sisters and latterly with The Blues Blasters.

Other forays included guest appearances with The Norman Beaker Band backing Lowell Fulson & Louisiana Red, and a couple of years  with comedy cabaret band Gene Therapy and the Chromosomes as their pianist Tony Veroni, where amongst many other strange things, he had to play tortoise music!

An invitation to play with Lightning Red and Thunder Blues from Austin Texas on the final date of their 2001 UK tour lead to appearances on their 2002 & 2003 tours.

This year has seen the highlight of Paul’s career, playing with the legendary Chuck Berry for four nights in Spain, finishing with a night at Blackpool’s Opera House.

Since then he has made two appearances with the up and coming Hamilton Loomis Band, on tour from Texas.
